Child Care Development Fund & Block Grant
The 2016-2018 Maine State Child Plan is here!
What it is
The Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) is a federal block grant that provides funding for states aimed at improving access to quality child care for high-need children and families. In 2014, the Child Care Development Block Grant (CCDBG) was reauthorized with new federal guidelines and regulations to promote family economic self-sufficiency by improving the affordability of child care, and by enhancing the overall quality of early learning programs in order to foster healthy child development and school success. Now, states are required to draft new state plans by March 1, 2016.
CCDF & CCDBG in Maine
Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services will be revising the program and drafting a new state plan in the upcoming months. The new state plan will likely require legislative and/or administrative action in the next year. The overall goal in reauthorization is to increase CCDF child care access, provide greater protection for child health and safety, and improve quality of care. Read the plan here.
MCA plans to stay engaged with DHHS’ efforts to develop and plan the legislation.
